Route Planning

Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park is a wonderful place and exploring it by bike is great fun. The park has a superb range of cycle routes. There is something for everyone. Every route below includes a direct link to a Loch Lomond and Trossachs route card, which features a map and detailed description of the route.

1. West Loch Lomond Cycle

West Loch Lomond Cycle
A level, linear route taking in the pretty village of Luss with spectacular views of Loch Lomond and its famous islands. Suitable for all types of bike.

2. Rob Roy Loop

Rob Roy Loop
A family-friendly ride through Strathyre Forest with mountains, lochs and wildlife. Suitable for all types of bike.

  • Terrain / Surface: Quiet rural road and cycle path (NCN 7)

3. Loch Venachar Circuit

Loch Venachar Circuit
A challenging circuit of contrasting halves centred around the picturesque Loch Venachar. Use a mountain bike or sturdy hybrid.

4. Loch Eck Loop

Loch Eck Loop
If you enjoy a demanding MTB route with magnificent views than this is for you. This route is suitable for MTB’s only.
  • Start Point : Forestry Commission Scotland centre at Glenbranter
  • Finish Point : Forestry Commission Scotland centre at Glenbranter
  • Approximate Time Taken : 3-4 hours
  • Terrain / Surface: Mainly forest tracks
  • Distance : 21 miles / 33 km
  • Total Climbing And Descent : +1664ft / +507m
 

5. Tour of the Trossachs

Tour of the Trossachs
This is a classic roadie circuit. You will get big climbs combined with outstanding scenery. What more could you ask for? Best bring a road bike but can also be done on a hybrid.

6. Old Military Road

Old Military Road
This route includes a 2km long climb leading to a RSPB nature reservoir and after that you will follow an old military road along Loch Arklet to Stronachlachar where you can stop for a coffee. Best to go with a Hybrid or a Mountain bike.

7. Achray Forest

Achray Forest
Get some peace and quiet as you explore forest tracks, picturesque lochs and high conifers of the Achray Forest. Take a mountain bike or a sturdy hybrid and be prepared for climbing.

8. Glen Loin Loop

Glen Loin Loop
This is an off road mountain bike circuit with a great single-track section weaving through the forest.

  • Terrain / Surface: Off-road and single track
  • Distance : 11.3 miles / 18 km

9. The Three Glens Loop

The Three Glens Loop
This circuit is wild mountain biking at its best. You will experience great scenery, a big climb and beautiful descent. This route is for mountain bikes only.

10. Glen Finglas & The Meall

Glen Finglas & The Meall
This circuit is a well-renowned and tough ride for experienced mountain bikers. Make sure your bike is well maintained as parts of this loop are remote and there will be no mobile phone reception. This route is for mountain bikes only.

11. Loch Ard Loop

Loch Ard Loop
An ideal circuit for families wanting to experience off-road cycling in a safe environment. Use a MTB or a hybrid bike.

12. The Banks of Loch Eck

The Banks of Loch Eck
A beautiful family orientated ride along the tranquil beaches and forests of western Loch Eck. Not suitable for road bikes. MTB or sturdy hybrid bike.
